The following is an actual question given on a  University  of  Arizona chemistry midterm, and an actual answer turned in by a student.
The answer by one student was so ‘profound’ that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.
Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?
Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:
First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving, which is unlikely. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different religions that exist in the world today.
Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added

This gives two possibilities:
1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, ‘It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,’ and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct….. …leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting ‘Oh my God.’

I first noticed something odd on my web browser on Wednesday early am. I could get my web site pages and I could get other web pages but I could not get E bay UK or E bay USA or Amazon. These site came up in a way I could describe as negative. No colour just print. So if you imagine a word page with words scattered on it in no particular patten and no color or pictures you’ll get the idea. I tried Email through my Outlook program. The result was mixed in terms of receiving emails. Some of the address that I have informed me that I had Email when others did not. They should have done but the message came up to say they could not connect to the server.

Microsoft .com doesn’t exist according to my Firefox web browser and this really confirmed to me that there must be something wrong.

In the evening not a lot had changed and so I rang my ISP at 5p per minute. The gentleman at the other end asked me to do various things to check my end for any possibility of a fault. No there was no fault. The gentleman at the end of the phone whose accent made it very difficult to not always understand what he was saying but I did catch him saying he was going to try something. But just then I noticed I was now connected again. I thanked him and said good buy. The phone call cost me approximately 35p.

The next day the internet was not working again. According to my Netgear all the lights were flashing the correct color and according to my double computer screen symbol in the tray said I was connected but no I was not. I couldn’t get any Email nor was Firefox showing any home page.

I rang Tiscali again. On the advice of my man who normally sorts my computer problems out. I am to ask Tiscali for a line check.

I get through and due to my hearing and the terrible phone line plus the gentleman’s accent I report the fault but cannot under stand the instructions Tiscali man is giving me. I redial in the hope that at least he will sound closer and therefore I may be able to understand what he is saying.

Again he wants to start with testing my end by requesting me to do this and that. But I insist that it is all working fine and that I am looking for a line test.

He asks something about holding on. After a short time he returns to say something about being off for a week to a month. This unfortunately triggers an outburst from me. How can I run a business with out an internet connection? Why was I not informed that this was going to happen and wheres my compensation?

He apologized and I just put the phone down. A whole week without the internet?? Wait a moment he said something about a month, didnt he? I was so annoyed and angry. How can, no I must of misheard him. I will ask the wife to ring them to get confirmation.

On the Sunday lunch time my wife rang Tiscali. This time she is asked to perform a completely differ routine to the previous man. In checking what is wrong with our computer even though she explained it was there end that was wrong. Any way she did as she was told and after what must have been well over 10 minutes at 5p per min she was in formed that there was a fault on the line. “It had been seized by BT” and that it should be fixed by next Wednesday or Thursday”

Careful What you write

I was discussing with one of my customers who develops education books for publishing about the possible impact that Google will have if they are allowed to get away with there proposal of making available all books on line free.
So if you wanted James Bond Goldfinger. You would go to Google type in James Bond Goldfinger book and up it comes free of charge for you to read. This would, you would think infringes, copyright laws but Googles excuses is it would be for educational purposes only. Therefore not infringing copyright. Just think you have written a book which has taken you months to research and the day it is published Google scans it in and lets people have for nothing. Anyway I believe its going to court to see if Google has the right to do this.

We also talked about what is written on the Internet generally and one of the interesting scenarios was the following. Lets suppose you are a 15 year old writing on  a web page and decide to criticize a company about there way of doing business. Then lets say 10 years later he applied for a job with that company. The company looks him up on the Internet and Bingo up pops what he had written about them 10 years earlier. Consequently the company don’t like this and so he doesn’t get the job.
I guess on blogs it may not look so bad as Blogs are generally dated but if the web page where the words are written is not dated then whose is to say when it was written.
In other words be careful what you say today as it may come back in years to come and bite you where you do not want to be bitten.

So the British inventor has done it again. A Mr Wolfram Alpha has come up with a new search engine that according to experts will give Google a run for there money.
His idea that he has developed into a full working search engine People can use the system to look up simple facts – such as the height of Mount Everest – or crunch several data sets together to produce new results, such as a country’s GDP.  Read more here

E Book

Well I think I have found my E book and have been getting the 1st draft done. Its not the easiest thing I have done but hey you got give it ago.

I have just set up another Blog. This blog is to do with music. I have a insatiable appetite for listening to music. I am always trying to find the perfect track by any artist or group in any genre.  I am not particularly into Dance, Country Western and Opera. All though I do have some tracks from all these genres in my 1500 CD collection. I guess most music I enjoy is well, everything else.
The purpose of this Blog is to try and find out what people listen to say in the car, Sunday morning, there
favourite saddest song, there song or album they could not live with out,favourite love song, etc etc.
Any way I set up this blog  last Thursday On Sunday 19th at about 7am GMT. I spent a couple of hours messing about with it. I then wrote some pages in the afternoon  and at 5pm I checked to see if Google had picked it up.
Of course it hadn’t. But it had by 9pm. To say the least I was quite surprised considering normally it takes 1-2 weeks for web sites I have set up to show and then with in a few weeks disappear from G all together. If you are interested then please visit http://www.icanhearmusic.com

Common knowledge?

Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 600 employees

84 have been arrested for drink driving in the last year

Which organisation is this?

It’s the 635 members of the House of Commons, the same group that cranks out
hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us inline.

What a bunch of to**er’s we have running the UK – it says it all. And just to
top all that they probably have the best ‘corporate’ pension scheme in the
country .

If you agree that this is an appalling state of affairs, please pass it on to
everyone you know. It’s time to stand up to this lot.
